Britain has become the most watched country in the world from cameras known as CCTV (closed circuit television) but why are there so many cameras in the UK? The authority’s say it is for our own protection and that we must be monitored to ensure our own safety, but what are they really trying to achieve with all the spying and monitoring?
It was not too long ago that Britain was like any other country in the world (probably a little better than most) and crimes and such as after pub brawls, or possibly a mugging here and there would still occur. These were incidents that just happened and we wished they did not. The criminals who then appeared in court would usually get off due to lack of evidence and the public would say “if only they had been caught on camera, they would not have got away with it.So there were cases where CCTV and, being watched, were a good idea and the public thought they had protection from these cameras and were reassured they were being monitored for their own safety.

The examples that I have just laid out illustrate why the cameras and the watching have been so accepted by the public at large, because we actually think that these cameras are there for our own protection and security.
We have been sold the idea over and over again and we now really believe the authorities did all this for us to help us. If that was true, we would live in a great society where the government or people in power really cared about its citizens and wanted to protect them. The trouble is that all the evidence is to the contrary and they seem not to care about what happens to the people under their control.

Some people say that we have got nothing to worry about as long as we are not doing anything wrong but this is not right. We should fear the ones watching us because they hold immense power over us and they are the ones who should be monitored. What will they do with these powers once the public seems not to care anymore; what is really happening across the whole country? We are being watched every day and possibly our telephone conversations (mobile and landlines) are being monitored too, but what do they hope to find out about us from doing this? That is the question we should be asking? It was recently disclosed in America that the authorities were monitoring everybody’s conversations and activities without proper warrants, and all the laws which are there to protect its citizens were being broken.

Do we really think it is any different in our country? They say they are doing this to prevent terrorism but somehow this seems a little crazy. If they really wanted to prevent terrorism they should probably pull out of countries like Afghanistan and Iraq and exert greater control over Israel who attracts great hatred toward America and its allies.

These are the reasons why we have terrorism and we have to believe they know this too and are using all the excuses they can think of to monitor us and have total control over their people. We have to be aware that what they are saying might not be the whole story and we must be aware how precious our freedom is and try to protect it. We cannot assume that the Government will always protect us and have our best interest at heart. The fact that we are being watched everyday and having conversations recorded should be cause for concern and we need to protect our rights and freedom before we have no freedom left.

Here at NewsCast we will be monitoring the governments’ monitoring of us and we will try to bring attention to what is really happening to this country. More importantly, we will try to protect our civil rights as citizens and human beings. If you have any story that might be of interest about your rights being eroded or you feel you are being monitored unnecessarily, then please e-mail our newsdesk to get these stories in the open.

Do you feel this country and those in power have gone one step to far toward a socialist regime or have we arrived at that already? Send us your thoughts and let us educate the public on what is really going on in this country.
