Gloucestershire Police are now trying to get members of the public who see anyone wearing any chunky pieces of jewellery to contact them, as they might be criminals.
The campaign which targets anyone driving a fast car or buying luxury items was launched last week by the force and crime stoppers, under the title – ‘Too Much Bling? Give Us a Ring’.
Chief Constable Dr Timothy Brain said the scheme has been aimed at cracking down on people who funded a lavish lifestyle from the profits of crime. ‘In the current time of financial uncertainty, those who live a lavish lifestyle with no discernable, legitimate income become even more apparent,’ he added. Ann Widdecombe, Tory MP and former home office minister has said: ‘Is this a joke? How are you meant to judge if someone buying a piece of jewellery can afford it? ‘If the police spent half as much time tackling crime and getting out on the beat as they do coming out with this ridiculous stuff, we’d all be better off.’
We have definitely reached a point of no return for daft and strange policing because
this kind of policy seems to be put to the test more and more. Do the police really
feel these tactics will work and if so what makes them work?
Are the public trained in the snitch culture to such extent that they would want to cooperate with these underhand tactics issued by the police.
With a snitch culture that is adopted by a nation on orders by its police force, is in a dangerous place as we are in affect policing our neighbours and it is not our role to do so.
That was how Nazi Germany started and we all know what happened there. We have to hope that people come to their senses and realise that what they are being asked to do is wrong and will have detrimental impacts on our culture and society as a whole.
